Almost every night I go into the game room, armed with a kitchen knife and with a mission in mind. Get the slightest bit of fruit into my sons’ diet. There I make slivers which I deftly deliver to them as they punch buttons on the game or the computer. They know what’s coming. Sometimes I even give a slice to their friends.
An apple is never turned down. I teach at an International school and I never met anyone who had a distaste for apples. It is a universally-beloved fruit, and a delight to eat. One of the few things in our pasty-diet society whose crunch outdoes the smack. No one ever said, “Stop chomping on that apple!” Apples, simply put, are good. A perfect fit for the hand; a great way to make a fist. Something which can always justify a wide-open mouth.
So, share an apple with someone you love. Listen to it disappear.
