Love God with all your heart,
with all your guts, with all your sweat
and every muscle and pound you pile on
with every rustle and sound of nylon
Love God with every pulse
and even the slightest results.
Love God with your very sinew,
with everything that’s in you
Love God with your routine
With your highest dream
With every flush of blood to the head
With every rush of adrenal gland
With all you grasp with a calloused-hand
Love Him with every sigh and gasp
And grunt uttered through clenched-teeth
When your forearms shudder and your whole body shakes
Love God with every added weight
Love God till your veins extrude
and your brain exudes endorphines
and your will even more bends
towards God’s design.
Love God
But don’t love Him sweetly, dutifully,
weakly, beautifully –
Love God tough and do it
till you’re righteously cut,
morally rock-hard,
willfully steel-purposed
and on, and on, and on . . .
